Project title: Copenhagen bicycle-city-staff visiting
Rotterdam
Client and Question:Municipal staff of the city of Copenhagen, responsible for cycling
policies, wanted to visit sites of interest to them in the Netherlands. They
wanted to learn from a Dutch city.
Result: In
cooperation with a team member of the Copenhagen staff, we developed a programme
in which we visited Rotterdam municipal staff, where we discussed bicycle
policies and regional projects developing various bicycle highways. This was
followed by a talk on cycling policies by the bicycle coordinator of
Copenhagen. In the afternoon, we had a cycle tour, including the bicycle
highway, route finding for cyclists and a visit to OV-fiets. This is the
successful Dutch bike sharing system at stations. The finale was a dinner at
the famous Hotel New York; the place from where, during the 19th and
20th century, many emigrants left for North America.
